Indian women working outdoors face rising heat risks exacerbated by gender roles, with millions in informal jobs lacking support or social protections, making them especially vulnerable. This initiative addresses these challenges by offering a comprehensive protection package that combines insurance and non-insurance interventions. It includes a parametric policy for extreme heat, as well as a cash layer that pays out at lower levels of extreme heat to provide earlier financial support and guaranteed protection. In addition, a guaranteed cash transfer is paid out at a lower temperature, providing earlier support even before the heat insurance is triggered to strengthen vulnerable women urban workers’ capacity to protect their health and livelihoods from the impact of extreme heat.
Climate Resilience for All is a global climate adaptation NGO dedicated to the protection of women and vulnerable communities from extreme heat.
